What you get
  • Her list, typos and all, tidied by our AI and priced at four supermarkets before you pay.
  • Reserved, not charged, and never more than the reserved amount.
  • Every line of the till receipt, next to the list.
  • A tracking link to send Mum.

Your shopper makes the trip, stands in the queue and carries it all. Your family opens the door.

How it works

Mum asks. You say the word.

It starts with a WhatsApp from home: Mum's grocery list, or a photo of the phone Dad wants. Your shopper buys exactly that, down to the brand of rice.

How we shop

The care you'd take, if you were there.

We check the dates.

We choose the freshest milk, bread and meat available, and check every best-before date.

Fruit and veg, chosen by hand.

We pick each one carefully: no bruised tomatoes, soft onions or split bags of potatoes.

Cold things go in last.

Chilled and frozen food is picked up at the end of the shop, then kept in a cooler on the way to the door.

We check everything twice.

Once against your list before we leave the shop, and once more when we arrive at the door.

You see exactly what was spent.

We upload the till slip and match it to your list. You pay the actual shop total, plus the DijoBox fee.

We pack it like it's ours.

Bread, eggs and fruit stay away from the heavy stuff, so everything arrives as it should.

Something else?

Found it? Consider it done.

A gift for the wedding. Toys for the kids. A cake for the party. Send a photo and the shop. Your shopper checks it matches, buys it and hands it over.

The order

A photo is all it takes

A picture from the shop, a screenshot of its website, or the one they sent you. Add the shop and the price on the tag.

The check

Checked before it's bought

Your shopper holds it up against your photo. Not quite the same? They do what you said: something close, leave it out, or ask you first.

The handover

A surprise, if you like

The shopper won't say what it is when they call ahead. Add a message and it comes on a card.

To fetch and deliver from one shop: £15.99 up to P999 of things, £18.99 for P1,000 to P2,000. Each other shop adds £3.99. Up to three things from anywhere in Gaborone. No markup on what you choose. If one person can carry it to the car, we can bring it.

Clothes and shoes: only when you know the exact item and size. We can't return or exchange them.

Fees

Sending cash is cheaper. Our fee pays for the legwork.

from £15.99

Per grocery shop, by its size. P600 to P999: £15.99. P1,000 to P2,499: £19.99. P2,500 to P4,000: £24.99. It pays for the shopper's time in the aisles, the queue at the till and the trip to the door. The smallest shop we do is P600, and the biggest P4,000.

from £15.99

For something else, by the prices on the tags. £15.99 up to P999 of things, £18.99 for P1,000 to P2,000, from one shop. Each other shop adds £3.99, because it's another trip across town. It pays for the trip, checking each thing against your photo, and carrying it to the door. It's reserved on your card, like a grocery shop, for up to P2,000 of things.

Rate

Fixed when you pay. £1 = P18.42 right now. If the pula moves before the receipt is in, your shop keeps the rate you paid at.

12%

Reserved, not charged. The reserved amount is the price of the list, the errand fee and 12% extra, in case the till comes to more. On something else, it's 10%. You never pay more than the reserved amount. We release the rest the same day the receipt is in. Your bank decides when it shows.

If we can't do it at all, you pay nothing: the reserved amount is released, or your payment refunded in full.

Questions

Straight answers, starting with the price.

Why not just send money?

Sending cash is cheaper. A transfer usually costs a few pounds. A DijoBox grocery shop costs from £15.99 on top of the groceries, and anything else from £15.99 on top of the price.

The fee pays for the legwork. Your shopper goes to the shop, buys exactly what you asked for, queues at the till and carries it to the door. Mum does not catch a combi, stand in the month-end queue or carry 10kg of rice home from the stop. And you see every line of the till receipt.

Why does the fee depend on the size of the shop?

A bigger shop takes longer in the aisles and at the till, and more trips to the car. P600 to P999: £15.99. P1,000 to P2,499: £19.99. P2,500 to P4,000: £24.99.

The fee is set by the list's price when you pay, and it never goes up afterwards, even if the till receipt lands in another band. The smallest shop we do is P600. The biggest is P4,000, what one shopper can carry in one trip.

For something else it depends on the prices on the tags: £15.99 up to P999 of things, £18.99 for P1,000 to P2,000, from one shop. Each other shop adds £3.99, since that's another trip across town.

Mogoditshane: Mogoditshane, Ledumadumane, Nkoyaphiri, Tsolamosese.

Around Gaborone: Phakalane.

Your aunt in Phakalane: yes. Your cousin in Mahalapye: not yet. If your family's area is not on the list, tell us where at hello@dijobox.com.

What does my family have to do?

Be home on the day, keep the phone on and open the door. The shopper calls before arriving.

No trip to the shops. No queue. No fare. Nothing to carry home from the stop, and nothing to pay at the door.

With the address, you can leave a note for the shopper, like “Green gate opposite the tuck shop”, so they find the house first time.

Can Mum write the list herself?

Yes. She sends it to you on WhatsApp, and you paste it in as it is. Any order, brands and sizes included: “10kg Tastic rice, 2 Sunlight soap, tray of eggs”.

Typos are fine too. Our AI tidies the list and works out what each line means, so neither of you has to fix it first.

We price it at Choppies, Spar, Pick n Pay and Woolworths, and ask only what we need to know, like how much chicken.

She writes the list. You say the word.

What else can you bring, besides groceries?

Anything they've asked for that one person can carry to the car: a phone, flowers, a birthday present, toys, toiletries, baby things, school supplies, a cake for the party. From any shop in Gaborone, up to three things and P2,000 at a time, from £15.99 to fetch from one shop and £3.99 for each other shop.

Clothes and shoes too, but only when you know the exact item, colour and size: we can't return or exchange them if they don't fit.

You find it. Send a photo of it (a screenshot of the shop's website is fine), the shop that sells it and the price on the tag. Your shopper does the rest.

We don't buy alcohol, cigarettes, medicine, airtime or gift cards, or anything that takes two people to carry.

How do you know it's the right one?

From your photo. Your shopper takes it into the shop and checks the thing against it before paying: the model, the colour, the size you gave.

If it isn't exactly the same, they do what you chose for it: something close, leave it out, or ask you first on the tracking page. No answer in 30 minutes, and they leave it out. You pay nothing for what isn't bought.

Can you return or exchange something?

Please only ask for something you're sure they want. Once it's bought as you asked, we can't return or exchange it.

If your shopper buys something other than what you asked for, that's on us: we replace it or refund it. Clothes and shoes are where this matters most, so check the size with them first.

What if the shop has run out of something?

For groceries, you choose before you pay, for the whole shop or item by item:

  • Pick something similar. The shopper takes the closest match and notes the swap on the tracking page. This is the default.
  • Skip it. The shopper leaves it out.
  • Ask first. The shopper suggests one swap and its price, and you answer yes or skip on the tracking page. If you signed in with email, we email you the question. No answer in 10 minutes, and the shopper takes the swap they suggested.

You pay the till price for what was bought, and nothing for what was not.

What will I actually pay?

What the till receipt says, plus our fee: from £15.99 for a grocery shop, by its size, and from £15.99 for something else. That is all we charge.

When you book, we reserve money on your card. Reserved, not charged. When the till receipt is in, we charge the receipt total plus the fee and release the rest.

An example grocery shop, at £1 = P18.42:

  • List priced at P900.00 (£48.86)
  • To reserve on your card: £70.71
    • Groceries: £48.86
    • 12% extra, in case the till comes to more: £5.86
    • Errand fee: £15.99
  • Receipt total: P874.50 (£47.48)
  • You paid: £63.47, which is £47.48 plus the £15.99 fee
  • Released: £7.24

In this example, the shopper can spend up to P1,007.94 (£54.72) at the till. If the total would go higher, they put something back. We never charge more than the reserved amount.

On a debit card, the reserved amount lowers your available balance until it is released. We release the rest the same day the receipt is in. Your bank decides when it shows.

What exchange rate do you use?

Right now we price shops at £1 = P18.42.

The rate is fixed when you pay. If the pula moves before the receipt comes in, your order keeps the rate you paid at.

Which cards can I use?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB, debit or credit, and Apple Pay or Google Pay. You pay in pounds.

Your card details go straight to Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store the full card number. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment in its app or with a code.

Is this a money transfer?

No. You pay for the groceries or the things you chose, and we buy them and deliver them. No cash is paid out in Botswana.

What times can I pick?

When you add the address, you pick a window: 08:00 to 12:00 or 14:00 to 18:00, Gaborone time. You can choose from the next four that start at least two hours from now.

For something else, the first day is tomorrow and the last is six days ahead, so your shopper has time to find it.

The shopper calls before arriving at the door.

Can Mum follow the shop?

Yes. After you pay, you get a tracking link to send her on WhatsApp or by SMS. She does not need an account.

She sees each step as it happens: who her shopper is, the shop, any swaps, the till receipt, and when it's on the way.

Sending a surprise? Keep the link to yourself. The shopper only calls to check someone is home.

Can I send the same shop again?

Yes. Sign in and open Mum's last shop from Your orders. On its tracking page, “Send Mum's shop again” loads the same list and address for you to check and pay.

What if I need to cancel, or something goes wrong?

Write to hello@dijobox.com with your order number. It looks like DB-2742 and is at the top of your tracking page.

Need to cancel or change something? Write as soon as you can. We can cancel until the shopper pays at the till: the whole reserved amount is released, or your payment refunded in full, and you pay nothing. Then send the new order.

If we cannot do it at all, we cancel it and you pay nothing.

Something we did not answer? Write to hello@dijobox.com.
